How is the company structured?
Clayton & Co (Penistone) Limited is the parent company of Clayton Penistone Group.
The company was formed in 1895 to manufacture the “Certainty” range of warning signals, a stand alone audible warning device used within the railway industry. In 1988, under new management, whilst continuing to manufacture the warning signals, the company diversified its activity to include valve actuator maintenance and mechanical and electrical services.

By 2000 the company had three distinct business streams, each having its own clients and activities. With a high reputation for quality service coupled with a loyal customer base and a high safety culture to maintain, the directors decided to form two wholly owned subsidiary companies and then to split the business streams three ways.
Today Clayton Project Engineering Limited and Clayton M&E Services Limited have been formed and the split has been successfully completed and the objectives achieved.
In 2008 an opportunity arose for the company to extend its services even further and so under specialist and experienced management a further wholly owned company joined the family stable called Clayton iwt Limited. This addition now allows the company to offer a complete package service in wastewater treatment. With many years experience in the field clients can be assured of quality service and advice.
Clayton & Co (Penistone) Limited continues to supply the subsidiary companies with financial, legal and management services and the manufacture of the “Certainty” range of warning signals.
The managing directors of the subsidiary companies also serve on the board of Clayton & Co (Penistone) Limited and these directors hold 80% of the company shares.
